How I work

About Iren

One pair of hands, one needle. I make portraits at a scale and detail almost no one stitches by hand anymore.

Iren, the master of the atelier, with one of her embroidered works behind her

One pair of hands

I prepare, plan and stitch every commission myself, from your photograph to the framed piece. Nothing is sent out.

In Dubai, one at a time

I keep only a few commissions open at once. A large portrait is tens of thousands of crosses and hundreds of hours, so each one gets that time.

Made to last

Real thread on canvas, matted behind glass in a frame built to size. Made to hang for decades.

A photograph takes a fraction of a second. This takes months. That difference is the whole point.

Have a portrait in mind?

Tell me what you have in mind. I'll be honest about whether the photo works, the effort, and the cost, before anything starts.
